Jump Start

Event date: June 21-26, 2020

Why not jump-start your college education by spending a week with us this summer? Our summer Jump Start allows you to come to campus for a week, earn college credit, stay in the dorms, and participate in fun activities throughout the week. Your college class is even offered at a large discounted price! This program is June 21-26, 2020. If you’re graduating high school in 2020, 2021, or 2022, why not spend a week with us this summer and prepare for your next steps in life?

Classes

 
 
Biology and Sports Performance – 3 credits
Biology and Sports Performance will examine the basic tenets of most biology courses and look to make practical applications to improving one’s athletic performance. Discovering practical, science-based tips to improving one’s athletic abilities through nutritional applications will be one of the “biological, God-designed secrets of success.” This course will not only satisfy science or elective credits, it will provoke one’s thinking to improve our stewardship over our athletic responsibilities. 
Mr. Brandon Fritz holds his Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa, his M.Ed. from Olivet Nazarene University and his M.S.S.E from Montana State University. He is an avid cross-fit enthusiast and has nearly twenty years of classroom teaching experience at the high school and collegiate level.

Old Testament Law, History, and Poetry – 3 credits
A survey of Old Testament law, history, and poetry, giving such points as the background of the book, keywords
and verses, information about the author, date, and circumstances of writing,
theme, importance, features, and the high points of each book.
  
 Music Theory I- 2 credits
Learn about leading figures, terminology, and basic problems of philosophy. Solutions of the leading philosophical systems are compared, contrasted, and evaluated.
Dr. Paul Hartog is a renowned theologian and scholar who has taught classes at places like Oxford and Loyola-Chicago. Dr. Paul is highly-respected amongst his peers and is a popular, well-regarded teacher on the Faith campus.
 
 Creation Apologetics – 2 credits
Learn about the study of Apologetics with a special emphasis on creationism.
Mr. Carl Kerby and Dr. Juan Valdes are two of the most well-known experts in the world on the topic of creation. We are honored to have two brilliant speakers who travel the world speaking to groups and conferences. Even the famous actor, Kirk Cameron, has weighed in on Carl Kerby, stating, “Carl knows what he’s talking about and is able to teach others with humor, a quick wit, and solid scientific information.”
 
Leadership Toolbox – 2 credits
Do you want to know the basic, non-negotiable aspects of leading a team? Whether with a group of volunteers at church or colleagues in a business, everyone is called upon to manage a project, captain a team, or run an event at some point in life. The Leadership Toolbox course trains you to have confidence in leadership roles by exposing the most critical elements of teamwork, strategic thinking, project planning, and organizational communication. The course begins with each student taking an in-depth personality profile and leadership assessment. All students will also work through various real word group projects and presentations. And, every student will create a top-notch resume and LinkedIn profile. 

Cost

The cost for attending Jump Start is $399, with the exception of the Creation Apologetics course, which is $450.  This includes:

  • Tuition for two or three college credits (60% discount off what a college student normally pays)
  • All meals (Monday breakfast-Friday lunch)
  • Dormitory lodging (supervised by adults)
  • Evening activities
  • Zoo field trip (Creation Apologetics course only)

This price does not include transportation to/from Jump Start or required textbooks.  Estimated textbook costs range from $25-$105–depending on the Jump Start course.   Textbooks will be available for purchase in our bookstore when you arrive on campus for Jump Start.

Dress

  • Classroom—Business casual (khaki/dress pants and polo/nice top)
  • After Class—Casual (jeans, t-shirt, shorts, capris, etc.)

5:30 p.m.—6:00 p.m. Dinner
6:30 p.m.—8:30 p.m. Special Activities
*The two credit course will end at 3:30 p.m.

  • Arrival: Check in Sunday night from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Nettleton Center
  • Departure: Friday after lunch
