Refresh Conference 2019
January 29-February 1

“The Fruit of the Spirit in Ministry”

A Conference for Christian Leaders and Spouses

Life in ministry is filled with joyous peaks, but it can also have its exhausting valleys. Refresh Conference is designed specifically to encourage ministry leaders who are currently serving in the trenches. The schedule is specially designed to allow busy Christian leaders to rest and spend time alone with their spouses. The general sessions and workshops offer you and your spouse a chance to soak in God’s Word while being taught from experienced ministry leaders. The hospitality room not only provides you with a variety of complimentary snacks and drinks, but also the perfect location to fellowship with others who can relate to the joys and struggles in ministry. We hope you will join us for this spiritually encouraging conference, and we trust that God will use it to refresh you in your ministry.  Registration opens October 1!

Dr. Jim Berg: Professor of Biblical Counseling, Bob Jones University Seminary

Dr. Berg serves as a member of the seminary faculty of Bob Jones University after having served as Dean of Students of BJU for 29 years. He teaches biblical counseling and discipleship courses. He holds an MA in theology from BJU and a DMin in biblical counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has authored numerous books including Basics for Believers, Changed into His Image, Essential Virtues, When Trouble Comes, God is More Than Enough and Quieting a Noisy Soul—a multi-media personal study program addressing guilt, anger, anxiety, and despair. See www.jimberg.com for more information about his books and seminars. Jim serves as Executive Director of Freedom That Lasts®—a Bible-centered ministry to those struggling with addictions and hurtful life circumstances (www.freedomthatlasts.com). He is also the director of Faith Counseling Institute (www.faithcounselinginstitute.com). Both ministries are based at his home church, Faith Baptist Church in Taylors, SC. Jim and his wife, Pat, have ministered as speakers for men’s and women’s conferences and marriage seminars and retreats. They have three married daughters and eleven grandchildren.

Dr. Marty Herron: Executive Vice President, Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary

Dr. Herron recently joined the faculty at Faith as Executive Vice President.  He previously served as Senior Pastor of Harvest Baptist Church in Barrigada, Guam since 2000—a thriving, multi-faceted ministry including a Bible college, a Christian Academy, and a radio station. Before moving to Guam, Dr. Herron and his wife, Tami, served at Northland Baptist Bible College for 18 years, where he served as Dean of Students and later as Vice President of Student Affairs. While at the college, he served as the director of Northland Camp and Conference Center. Tami taught several classes in the college and served as a women’s counselor.  Dr. Herron is a graduate of Bob Jones University (B.A., L.H.D.) and the WILDS Camp Director Institute. He and Tami have four grown children and ten grandchildren. He is an avid reader of theology, history, and biographies; and he enjoys an occasional round of golf.

Dr. Rand Hummel: Director of The Wilds of New England

Dr. Hummel has been the Director of The Wilds of New England since 2009.  He has served on staff there for 30 years and is also an Adjunct Professor in a number of Christian colleges.  Dr. Hummel has had the privilege to speak to thousands of teenagers throughout his lifetime of dedication to youth ministry.  He has authored many devotional commentaries and Bible helps such as The Darkside of the Internet, Exposing Counterfeit Christianity, and In Their Sandals.  His unique and humorous approach to the Word of God has been an encouragement to teens all over the eastern United States.  His wife and best friend is Amber, and he has two grown children and three beautiful grandchildren.  His goal is to help parents and teens to hate sin and love God more.  Other than this, he’s just an overall nice guy.

Dr. Doug McLachlan: Former Pastor, Fourth Baptist Church, Plymouth, Minnesota

Dr. McLachlan has served as Pastor at First Baptist Church, New Ulm, Minnesota; Bethany Baptist Church, Grand Blanc, Michigan; and Fourth Baptist Church, Plymouth, Minnesota. While senior pastor of Fourth Baptist Church, Dr. McLachlan served as president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary and taught in the areas of homiletics and pastoral theology. Following his retirement from pastoral ministry at Fourth Baptist Church in 2007, he returned to Northland in a part-time teaching and itinerate ministry. Beginning in 2012, he rejoined the faculty of Central Baptist Theological Seminary where he serves as Chancellor and part-time professor of Pastoral Theology in the M. Div. and D. Min. programs. In addition, he continues to engage in itinerant teaching and Bible Conference ministries.

Dr. Les Ollila: President, Building Great Leaders

After graduating from Bob Jones University, Les Ollila served as the youth pastor at Calvary Baptist Church is Roseville, Michigan, and as a staff evangelist for Life Action Ministries. He was president of Northland Baptist Bible College from 1984 to 2002 and led the school to an enrollment of more than 600 students. Dr. O, as he is affectionately called, later became the chancellor of the school. He now has an itinerant ministry to pastors and churches.

Pastor Tim Potter

As a young man in high school, Tim was called by the Lord to preach the gospel. Pastor Tim graduated from college with an undergraduate degree in Theology and a minor in Business Administration. He earned a Master of Bible in May of 1991 and his Master of Divinity in 2005. Pastor Tim has been at Grace Church in Mentor, Ohio since August of 1991. He ministered as the Associate/Youth Pastor for fourteen years and has been Senior Pastor since 2006.  In a culture in which churches are trying to reach the lost by being culturally relevant, Pastor Tim believes that the clear teaching and application of the Word of God is the method in which the Holy Spirit cultivates change in His own children and draws the unbeliever to Himself.  Tim has been in love with Ronda Ray Potter since they were freshmen in college (1986). They were married in 1991 and have 4 children: Caleb, Micah, Noah, and Emma.

Dr. Dean Taylor: Faculty, Faith Baptist Bible College

Dr. Dean Taylor is Chair of the Ministries Division and of the Pastoral Training Program at Faith Baptist Bible College. Prior to coming to the college in 2016, he served as Senior Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, South Carolina; Senior Pastor of Brookside Baptist Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin; and Youth Pastor of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a graduate of Bob Jones University (BA, MA, MDiv) and Northland Baptist Bible College (DMin). Dean and his wife, Faith, have four adult children and two grandchildren. He enjoys reading, cycling, tennis, and trout fishing, and he blogs occasionally at deanhtaylor.com.

Dr. Jim Tillotson: President, Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary

Jim Tillotson is the president of Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary in Ankeny, Iowa. He has served as president since June of 2015, after serving for 18 years as the senior pastor of Meadowlands Baptist Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. During his time in Canada, he led Meadowlands Baptist in planting three new churches and helped begin a Christian school and a small Bible institute. Jim holds Bachelor of Arts (1990) and Master of Ministry (2002) degrees from Northland Baptist Bible College. In 2016, Bob Jones University conferred an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree on him. Jim serves on the U.S. and Canadian councils of Baptist Mid-Missions and the board of Grand View Camp in Eagar, Arizona. In his short time as president, Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary has witnessed a revival in student enrollment, an uptick in financial giving, and the completion of several campus construction and renovation projects. Jim and his wife, Joan, have three children: Anne, who resides in Canada; Tim, a Faith graduate, married to Kellie; and Beth, who is a current student at Faith.
