EQUIP

Event date: April 7, 2018

A national fine arts competition hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College in partnership with the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

EQUIP exists to assist churches in their effort to “…equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” (Ephesians 4:12). This fine arts competition gives 7th–12th grade students the opportunity to compete in various musical, speech, and art categories. The competition will be held annually at Faith Baptist Bible College and is divided into four divisions:

Division 4: Group Entrants

Division 4 groups will be scored by judges and will receive a I, II, or III rating based on their score. Should a group consist entirely of 7th and 8th grade students, that group will have lesser requirements than that of a group that is either mixed or fully comprised of high school students. Students may not enter multiple categories in any given year, however, a student may participate individually and also as part of a group.

Division 3: 7th and 8th Grade

Division 3 students will be scored by judges and will receive a I, II, or III rating based on their score. Requirements for Division 3 will be very similar to Divisions 1 and 2, but may be less involved. For example, an instrumentalist in Division 2 would need to play two songs, whereas a Division 3 instrumentalist would only play one.

Division 2: 9th and 10th Grade

Division 2 students will be scored by judges and will be ranked first place, second place, etc. These rankings are separate from the Division 1 students. First and second place winners will receive a scholarship to Faith Baptist Bible College and a voucher redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. Requirements for Division 2 students will be identical to that of Division 1 students.

Division 1: 11th and 12th Grade

Division 1 students will be scored by judges and will be ranked first place, second place, etc. These rankings are separate from the Division 2 students. First and second place winners will receive a scholarship to Faith Baptist Bible College and a voucher redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. Requirements for Division 1 students will be identical to that of Division 2 students.

Awards

Winner Prize
Division 1, First Place $6,000 Scholarship, $100 Voucher
Division 1, Second Place $3,000 Scholarship, $75 Voucher
Division 2, First Place $500 Scholarship, $50 Voucher
Division 2, Second Place $250 Scholarship, $25 Voucher

EQUIP winners who will still be in high school the next year are eligible to compete again. Scholarships are not cumulative: you will only be able to use the largest scholarship you earn (including any Talents For Christ awards). However, should a student win first place as a junior (winning $6,000) and return the next year and win first place again as a senior, that student would receive a bonus $1,000 for a total of $7,000 scholarship. Depending on the size of the scholarship, the award may not be redeemable all at once, but will be spread over multiple semesters. Should no entrant in a particular category earn a high enough score to merit a scholarship, no scholarship will be awarded.

High school juniors and seniors are eligible and welcome to stay for Faith’s Spring Scholarship Weekend, April 5–7. Scholarship award packages will be based off of your scholarship interviews as well as your EQUIP competition placement. Contact Mary Tubbs for more information.

All scholarships are awarded by Faith Baptist Bible College. All vouchers are funded by the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches and are redeemable at the Faith Bookstore or at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp.

Eligibility

EQUIP is open to 7th–12th grade students who are members in good standing of a GARBC church or a church of doctrinal agreement with the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Group entrants will have the same eligibility requirements as individuals.

Cost

All entrants, including individuals and groups, will be charged $25. Students attending Faith’s Spring Scholarship Weekend will have their fee waived.
