FaithFest Recap: Preaching, Prizes, and Puppies

Hundreds of teenagers and their leaders converged on the campus of Faith Baptist Bible College on Saturday, October 5, for a day of fun and evangelistic rallies at FaithFest. Despite the stormy weather conditions, nearly 900 people participated in this year’s event (a new record), and spent the morning and afternoon listening to fantastic preaching from God’s word, winning fabulous prizes in a mockup of The Price is Right, and participating in a cornucopia of other fun events and games. Oh yes, and if that wasn’t enough, there were also puppies.

Over 85 student-volunteers and the entire admissions staff spent countless hours preparing for the event. Some of this year’s features included virtual reality games, inflatables, archery tag, a car-bash, pizza, and the aforementioned new wrinkle to this year’s lineup: six adorable German shepherd puppies that could be cuddled and held, and were a highlight to many of the seventh through twelfth grade young people in attendance.

Will Galkin was the featured speaker at this year’s rally. Will and his wife, Christy, are from Salt Lake City, Utah, and have ministered in an evangelistic capacity for nearly 25 years. They have been a part of nearly 600 evangelistic rallies and events. Galkin led two rallies during FaithFest—one in the morning and one in the afternoon—and the hearts of young people were stirred, with several accepting Christ.

Another new feature to this year’s lineup was a rendition of the popular game show, The Price is Right, which was not an originally planned event, but became one when it was apparent the weather was not going to cooperate in the morning. Many of the admissions staff and volunteers worked into the early morning hours on Saturday, setting up the game show, which became an instant hit. Contestants played Plinko and Cliff Hanger and guessed prices on various items, all while winning amazing prizes like cameras, Nerf Blasters, virtual reality headsets, and even a drone in the Showcase Showdown.

If you missed out on all of the excitement this year, mark your calendars for 2020. Next year’s FaithFest is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2020. Jason Blunk, Assistant Pastor at Ankeny Baptist Church, is penciled in as the featured speaker.

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s event!
