Reading Endorsement Courses

Christian schools are increasingly looking for teachers with reading endorsements. Having this endorsement will add to your credentials. Taking these online courses may also satisfy continuing education requirements.

The Christian School Department is authorized by the Iowa Department of Education to offer the K-8 Iowa Reading Endorsement. Four of the required courses are offered as part of the education major at Faith. They are:
• Children's Literature
• Adolescent Literature
• Content Area Reading in the Elementary
• Content Area Reading in the Secondary

The remaining three courses can be taken online to complete the course requirements for the reading endorsement.
• Language Acquisition and Development
• Reading Instructional Strategies
• Reading Practicum

Application Process
You will need to complete an application online and then send in the following:
• Two completed Pastor/Christian Worker reference forms (cannot be completed by relatives)
• College transcripts

Tuition: $417 per credit hour
Online Technology Fee: $25 per credit hour
A one-time matriculation fee of $50 may be charged to new students enrolling in a degree program.

Seminary Courses

 


Faith Baptist Theological Seminary offers hybrid master’s degree programs for the Master of Arts in Religion, the Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, and Master of Arts in Theological Studies. You may also enroll in the online seminary courses as a nondegree student, but you may earn only 9 credits before you must enroll in a degree program.

The seminary hybrid programs contain an on-campus core component supplemented with online courses. You must earn a total of 32 credit hours to complete the Master of Arts in Religion degree and a total of 36 credit hours for the Master of Arts degrees. More specific information about program requirements are available in the seminary catalog.

You can satisfy your on-campus residency requirements in as little as four weeks of modular courses (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and then complete the remaining requirements online.

M.A./M.A.R. Core Modules (17–19 credits)
Contemporary Christianity (2 credits)
History of Fundamentalism (2 credits)
Introduction to Biblical Exegesis* (3 credits)
New Testament Seminar (3 credits)
Old Testament Seminar (3 credits)
Theological Research (1 credit; also available online)
Theology Seminar (3 credits)

Biblical Studies majors must also take B-RE 802—Hermeneutics (2 credits) on campus.

*Students may substitute Hermeneutics if they have completed one year of Greek or Hebrew grammar in college or seminary.

M.A./M.A.R. Online Courses (17–19 credits)
You may take the rest of your program requirements through any combination of online courses, modules, or regular on-campus courses.
• M.A. In Biblical Studies—you must take a minimum of 7 credits of Biblical Studies (B-AN and/or B-RE) electives
• M.A. in Theological Studies—you must take a minimum of 12 credits of Theological Studies (T-SY and/or T-HI) electives
• M.A.R.—you must take a minimum of 15 credits of electives

Online Orientation Instructions

Online Student Orientation to the Canvas Learning Management System
All students enrolled in courses using Canvas are required to complete a one-time online orientation to Canvas, the learning management system used at Faith. Some of the topics covered in the orientation course include how to be successful in an online learning course, how to get your computer ready to use Canvas, and navigating and using Canvas for your coursework.

This self-paced orientation is available in Canvas once you have received your Faith username and password and after you have registered for an online course. You should complete this orientation prior to the start of classes. On average the orientation should take approximately two hours. Students can access their Canvas courses on the first day of class only if they have completed and passed the orientation course.

Taking the Canvas Student Orientation
Faith Username/Password—To log into Canvas and take the Canvas Student Orientation, you will need to know your Faith username and password.

Log into Canvas—Use your Faith username for your Canvas username and your Faith password as your Canvas password.

Taking the Canvas Orientation—After you log into Canvas, click on the Course link at the top of the page and select “Online Student Orientation." To start taking the orientation, follow the directions on the welcome page of the course. You will then need to work your way through each of the learning modules, in order, until you complete the Final Review. Once you have completed the final section of the orientation, the online staff will enroll you in your online course.
 

High School Jump Start Courses

 

We are excited to offer online Jump Start courses for high school students with an option for dual credit.

High School Students
Begin earning college credit while still in high school! With Faith Online Learning you can complete 18 college credits between our online Jump Start courses and our summer Jump Start program—that’s the equivalent of one semester. You can begin taking on-campus Jump Start classes the summer following your sophomore year. You can begin taking online Jump Start courses the fall semester of your junior year. Here is the suggested schedule to complete all 18 credits before enrolling as a full-time student at Faith for college.

A: No. Most public schools will not approve Bible classes for PSEO.

Q: When can I start taking online classes as a high school student?
A: You can begin taking online classes in the fall semester of your junior year. You can begin taking Jump Start summer courses the summer before your junior year.

Faith's online Bible courses are also available for those who are not enrolled full-time at Faith but desire to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word. Our desire is to help train Sunday School teachers, parents, deacons, youth leaders, and other men and women in local churches across the country.
