Searching Online
What kind of searches can I perform?
Key word (any word in the record), title, author, subject, call number, ISBN (International Standard Book Number), and LCCN (Library of Congress call number).

How should I enter the author's name when doing an author search?
Enter the last name, first name. e.g. Ryrie, Charles.

How can I limit my search?
Use the Boolean operators: AND and AND NOT. For example, if you search Fish AND Fishermen, the catalog would list materials containing both fish and fishermen. If you search Fish AND NOT Fishermen, the catalog would list materials containing fish, but not those materials that contain fishermen.

How can I broaden my search?
Use the boolean operator: OR. For example, if you search "fish OR "fishermen," the catalog would list materials containing fish or fishermen. Use a wildcard character (*). This will list different variations of the search term. For example, if you search Rock*, the catalog would bring up words such as rocker, rocks, rocket, etc. For a key word search, enter at least three characters before the asterisk. For the other searches, enter at least one character before the asterisk.

How can I do a search if I do not know how to spell the search term or if I need ideas of similar words I can search?
Enter the term in a search box and click the Browse button. It will bring up a list of the terms that most closely matches that search term.

If I find a good book, how can I find related materials?
Use the hyperlinks feature. Hyperlinks are underlined text on the Title information page. Click on the author hyperlink if you want to find books by the same author. Click on the subject hyperlink if you want to find books on the same subject.

How do I use the hypersearch button?
Highlight any word on the Title information or MARC record page. Click the hypersearch button. The catalog will do a key word search for the highlighted word.

How do I save a list of materials I want to check out?
Save them in your bookbag by clicking the Keep box next to the title of the material. To view the materials you have saved, click the bookbag button.
