Laylie Colbert

Elsie is an eight-year-old girl living with relatives on a Southern plantation in the mid-1800s. Her mother died
when she was born and she has never met her father. Raised by a nursemaid and a housekeeper who were both devoted
Christians, Elsie was saved at an early age. Her strong faith is obvious to the reader as they follow her life as
she grows up, marries, and even has children of her own.

In 1833, Millie is almost thirteen years old and the eldest of eight children. When her family struggles with
financial difficulties, Millie's parents decide to journey west to seek new opportunies in a prairie town called
Pleasant Plains, Indiana. Millie must learn to trust God in new ways out in the frontier and as she grows into
a godly woman.
