About Gary:
Coach Backous joined the athletic staff in 2008 as the head men’s soccer coach and in 2009 took over as the track and field coach. Gary graduated from Buena Vista University (IA) with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, and from the University of Cincinnati with a M.S. in Criminal Justice. While at Buena Vista University, Gary was on the soccer and track teams. During his college career, Gary was captain of the soccer team, a 1st Team All – Iowa Conference selection, a 2nd Team Academic All – Iowa Conference selection, and an Academic All – American District Team selection. Gary holds a USSF Class D license. Before coming to Faith, Gary was the head boy’s soccer coach at Colo-Nesco High School (IA) for 6 years and the assistant football coach for 4 years. Gary is currently a Story County Deputy Sherriff. He is married, and has a daughter. In addition to his duties as soccer coach, Gary is the strength and conditioning coach for the Eagle teams

About Lance:
Lance joined the athletic staff in 2007 as the assistant men’s soccer coach. A graduate of Faith, Lance earned his B.A. in Biblical Studies and an M.A. and M. Div. from Faith’s seminary. While a student-athlete at Faith, Lance was standout member of the Eagles soccer team. During his career, Lance was selected as the defensive player of the year, an NCCAA DII All American Second Team, the NCCAA DII North Central Region MVP, the team MVP, and the coaches’ award, and was a member of the 2003 team that finished sixth at the national tournament. Lance is currently working at Faith as the Assistant Dean of Men, a position he has held at Faith for the last two years.
