Spanish for "Upward Bound," ARRIBA! leads students to new heights in their relationship and ministry for God. ARRIBA! is sponsored
by Baptist Mid-Missions and Faith Baptist Bible College of Ankeny, Iowa. ARRIBA! combines academic studies with real-life
missionary experience. Since 1982, ARRIBA! has become a synonym for high-spiritual and academic achievement.
Program
Independent Baptist undergraduate students study and minister for nearly a year under actual mission field conditions.
The ARRIBA! program integrates them into a new culture, teaches them conversational Spanish, and equips them for
effective missionary service.
Students arrive at the ARRIBA! base in Lima, Peru in late May, accompanied by a Mission representative. They immediately
begin conversational Spanish study (with individual tutors), with practical cultural orientation in an environment which
requires 2 Timothy 2:3,4 discipline. The following months are spent in a concentrated but balanced blend of relevant
academic studies (in English) and missionary work (in Spanish) under the guidance of godly professors, missionaries,
and national leaders.
Curriculum
Students don't have to interrupt their college studies to participate in ARRIBA! They can earn up to thirty hours of
college credit (depending on the program of study). The ARRIBA! curriculum relates to missions, general Christian service,
Latin American studies, language and other courses chosen to meet specific credit requirements. The program applies to
most college curricular tracks and is accredited for transfer.
Ministry
The ARRIBA! ministry includes all aspects of church planting, student evangelism, discipling, literature distribution, and
several educational/recreational field trips.
The ARRIBA! center lies in a residential neighborhood, ideally located for significant contact with Peruvians. Students
live in an urban context, within walking distance of the conveniences needed for everyday life. This setting puts students
in an environment typical of the living conditions of today's missionary.
Finances
Some financial help is available for qualifying students (the academic element of the program is eligible for normal student
aid programs), plus ARRIBA! students as Baptist Mid-Missions missionary apprentices may receive tax- deductible gifts from
friends and churches for their ministry expenses. The participating student will be encouraged to present the ARRIBA! year
as a year of ministry, sharing his/her vision with family, friends and churches. One of the purposes of the program is to
allow the young person to experience everything that a normal missionary experiences in going to the field.
• Living and working under actual field conditions
• Daily, first-hand observation of Latin American life and culture
• Relevant field trips correlated with studies
• Cultural adaptation, a new language, the opportunity to win souls and disciple new believers in Spanish
• A new vision and burden of God's work through full involvement in actual cross-cultural missions.
• A return to campus life with increased maturity, higher spiritual purpose, and abundant memories of sights, sounds and
unique experiences
• A life forever enriched by the total ARRIBA! experience
